Soundbite Sweater
Inspired by sheet music, albums and the mixtapes of my youth, Soundbite is a cheerful project that will practically fly off your needles. The color detail is created with stripes and slipped stitches, so you won’t have to carry any extra strands the way you would with colorwork.
The clean lines and contrast make this one of my favorite designs; the style is wearable for any age, any gender, and in any color palette. If high contrast isn’t your style, try two shades of the same color for a softer visual.

Clever Fox Sweater
I love the imagery of a determined little fox. And when my boys were small they were most certainly determined about things like snacks, story time and the idea that they absolutely, definitely, 100% did not need to wear a coat no matter what I said about the weather. Clever Fox Beanie
If you have an adorable person in your life, they probably need this hat. The sample I knit is too small for anyone in our house, but it’s so darn cute that when I needed a hat the other day I checked to see if I could squeeze my head into it. I couldn’t. But that just means I need to knit another one in my own size. And if you squint your eyes, you can almost see a little fox face in the front panel.
Knit in the round from the top down to the brim, this beanie is seamed along the top to make a rectangle. I know, I know – a seam. But it’s only one and it’s super simple. (And if you’re very rebellious like me, you can use your sewing machine. Just don’t tell anyone I said so.)

Waterfall Sweater
This sweater began with a quote from Bruce Lee, “Water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.” It’s been through several iterations since it first leapt onto my needles, but I’m delighted to reimagine it once again for little ones. The waterfall panel reminds me of long road trips with our boys, with scenic waterfall stops along the way. To be honest, they were mostly potty breaks and a chance to stretch our legs, but the scenery was a welcome bonus.
The center panel is a clever arrangement of increases and decreases – no cables required!

Waterfall Beanie
Designed as a partner for its namesake pullover, this sweet little hat makes a splash of its own. The Waterfall Beanie is worked in the round as a tube (without crown shaping) and features a center lace panel and a charming picot bind-off. The real magic happens with the braided drawstring (although ribbon or i-cord would work just as well) to close the top and bring it all together.

Wildflower Cardigan
My favorite childhood summer afternoons were spent sprawled out in the grass with a good book. There were a few wildflowers here and there, which I routinely plucked and pressed in the pages. It was a delightful surprise to find them the next time I opened the book.
The wildflower inspired stitch pattern in this cardigan creates a subtle all-over texture that pops in a bold color. Or add a modern twist with contrasting ribbing and cuffs.

Little Gansey Sweater
Shopping for yarn when you’re tired is a lot like grocery shopping when you’re hungry, though I’ve never regretted any of the yarn that joined my family under these conditions. One such unplanned yarn purchase grew up to become a proper gansey, complete with a sea of delicious, twisty cables and fancy underarm gussets. This smaller version of the original is pared down for simplicity making it perfect for little ones. There’s just enough detail to keep it interesting, without slowing you down.

The Gansey Beanie
If I could only choose one stitch to knit for the rest of my life, it would be cables. Okay, maybe that’s not entirely true. My first choice would be stockinette stitch for its versatility, but cables are a very close second. Cables are warm, cozy and gorgeous – what’s not to love? The details in this pattern look extra impressive, but they’re brilliantly simple to knit.

Babbling Brook Sweater
When my youngest son was a toddler, I knit him a tiny sweater just like this one. His bright blue eyes and blond hair sparkled against the dark grey sweater as he bounced around wearing it. He outgrew it much too quickly (which might explain why it held up so well over the years), but it’s such a timeless style that I may get to pass it along to a grandchild someday. Babbling Brook Beanie
I first learned to knit cables in a phone call with my Grandma Margery. It was back in the day of long distance calling and early home internet, and frankly, I had no one else to ask. She cleared it up for me quickly: cables are just stitches that cross over other stitches – that’s it. It was so simple I couldn’t believe I had to ask. But we all start somewhere, don’t we? Pocket Watch Cardigan
There’s just something about a grandpa sweater – especially on a child – that puts a smile on my face. With tweed yarn, grown-up buttons and sophisticated details, I imagine this cardigan on a very tiny person with a pocket watch (and they’re slightly grumpy because they woke up from their nap too early). Bitty Beekeeper Sweater

Lil Biscuit Sweater
Like so many of my knitting ideas, this one happened on a long flight home with scraps of yarn and a sketch on a sticky note. I remember a lot of frogging (i.e. ripping it out) due to poor lighting, but I had an unlimited supply of Stroopwafel to get me through it. Now that I think about it, it might’ve actually been the Stroopwafel that inspired this design, but I’m not sure I want to admit that out loud.
The detail is easy to spice up with multiple colors or gradients, or you can create a color block effect by using your contrast for all of the ribbing, if you have enough.
