Lakeside Retreat
Alder - Designed by Amy Gunderson. Alder – a beautiful top worked in Flax Lace – conjures images of first blooms of spring that pop up throughout our gardens. The understated body reminds us of tiny violets popping up across grassy lawns. It is balanced out by the beautiful, botanically inspired lace hem. You won’t be able to resist wandering along the lakeside and picking wildflowers while wearing this airy linen top. This tank is worked flat in two pieces. First, the hem is worked from the top down. Then the main body is worked upward from the beginning-chain edge of the hem.

Blythe - Designed by Rachel Brockman. Crisp linen, deep color, and an easily memorized lace pattern come together to make this very wearable summer accessory. Blythe can provide a touch of warmth on a chilly evening but is still lightweight and lacy enough to have on during a warm day. Wear it is a stole or a scarf – its generous size makes the styling options numerous.
This wrap is comprised of a simple lace pattern that has seven variations. Although there are many charts, the stitch repeats are essentially the same throughout, but the length of each pattern repeat gradually gets smaller.

Cay - Designed by Rachel Brockman. Cay is a little bit funky and modern, and a whole lot wearable. Bands of lace form the side panels, which are knit sideways. Front and back pieces are knit from the bottom up. The side panels are joined to front and back, creating a visually interesting side split. This split allows for ease of movement, but also happens to look super cool. The knitting in Cay is relatively simple with minimal shaping, making this an excellent first garment. In this pattern, work all slipped stitches purlwise with yarn in front unless otherwise noted.

Cove - Designed by Rachel Brockman. Cove is a modern take on a classic cardigan. This sweater is crocheted in a unique fiber blend – Unity & Unity Beyond – that truly elevates the piece. With its blend of wool and plant fibers, this is a garment that is perfect for transitional seasons or to wear on a chilly summer evening. This cardigan is worked partly modularly, and also seamed. Solid Granny motifs make up most of the Fronts and Back. They are seamed together to create strips, with double crochet borders along upper and lower edges of the strips. One strip of Lacy Granny motifs runs across the upper portion of Fronts and Back. The sleeves begin with Lacy Granny motifs at the top and are then worked down to the cuff in solid double crochet.

A beautiful openwork pattern is splashed across the lower hem, reminiscent of wildflowers growing in a meadow. Wear this garment with the fronts hanging free, or pin one or both sides up with your favorite shawl pin. This vest is crocheted in one piece from the bottom up. Work is separated at the armholes, and then rejoined for the upper portion of the vest.

Dockside - Designed by Amy Gunderson. Where there is water, there is wind. Dockside is a shawl that is representative of both. This wedge-shaped shawl embodies gentle waves washing along shore. The fabric – warm, yet airy and lightweight – creates a barrier against the breeze. We recommend draping this shawl over your shoulders as you rest on the dockside – dipping your toes in the water and enjoying a good book. This shawl is knit in one piece, in five wedges. Each wedge is shaped with short rows. The border is worked in contrast color only. When changing colors between the border and main shawl body, use the intarsia method. Bring the new color up and around the old color to prevent holes forming in the work.
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS: Height: 26”; Width: 53½”
MATERIALS: Fibra Natura Whisper Lace (70% superwash wool, 30% silk; 50g/440 yds). 204 Cloudy Morning (MC) – 1 skein; 109 Amethyst (CC) – 1 skein

Harbor - Designed by Amy Gunderson. We may be biased (get it?), but we think this multi-directional top is a joy to knit. Harbor is a uniquely striped top worked on the bias. The fabric is beautifully textured and light, but dense enough to ward off the wind as you set sail from the harbor. The body of this sweater is knit from the bottom up on the bias. First, a triangular shape is knit. Then, an even section is worked where increases are made only in the center while decreases are made on the edges. Finally, a decrease section is worked where top corners are decreased on both sides.

Itusi - Designed by Rachel Brockman. The Itusi trail can be found on Lake Norman in North Carolina, not far from where this beautiful namesake shawl was photographed. And just like the trail, this shawl is windy with various sized “loops”. If you had a tiny mountain bike, it would be a blast to ride it along the ridges formed by this shawl! Itusi (the shawl) is aesthetically reversible, so there’s no need to worry about which side is showing as you wear it. Who needs that kind of stress, anyway? This asymmetric shawl is worked flat, beginning by at the widest edge and gradually decreasing to the tip. When working decreases in Garter Rib Twist pattern, maintain decreased stitches in pattern. If there are not enough stitches to work decreases and corresponding increases in the pattern stitch, work these extra stitches in garter stitch instead.
SIZE: One Size
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS: Width: 30½”; Length: 81”
MATERIALS: Fibra Natura Papyrus (78% cotton, 22% silk; 50g/131 yds); 229-10 Elderberry – 6 balls

GAUGE: 20 sts x 34 rows = 4” in Garter Rib Twist patt. Save time, check your gauge.
Jetton - Designed by Amy Gunderson. Jetton is named for the park in which the photos from this collection were taken. The top is inspired by the winding peninsulas around Lake Norman, each with trails and streets winding along the lakeside. The soft, luxurious blend of cotton creates a beautiful fabric that’s perfect to wear while strolling through the sandy beachfront at your favorite park. The Front and Back of this sweater are knit sideways. On the final row of both front and back, knife pleats are worked causing one side of the sweater, creating an asymmetric, ruched fabric appearance. Since neck shaping is the same on both front and back, the ruched side can be worn on either the left or right side of the body.

Monbo - Designed by Amy Gunderson. Monbo is named for a winding road that leads to Lake Norman, where the photos from this collection were taken. The faux cables resemble gentle waves on a breezy day, or twisting roads that lead to beautiful places. This cardigan is worked seamlessly from the bottom up. Yoke decreases occur within the Faux Cable patterns.

Northview - Designed by Amy Gunderson. Delicate lace details make this featherweight tee perfect for summer. This color of this top reminds us of brilliant, sky blue days filled with sunshine, but this yarn comes in a variety of solids and multis for you to really make it your own. This A-line top is knit in the round from the top down, beginning with twisted ribbing that is later sewn down to form an elastic casing.

Norwood - Designed by Rachel Brockman. This lightweight drop-shoulder pullover is a perfectly magical blend of interest and wearability. An asymmetrically placed cable panel balances out an otherwise pared back sweater. This is the garment you’ll reach for again and again throughout the year. The body of this sweater is worked flat in three pieces: Back, Front, and Side Panel. These pieces are sewn together at the seams. The Sleeves are picked up from the underarm and worked in the round from the top down. The neckband is picked up during finishing and worked in the round. Unless otherwise noted, all slipped stitches in this pattern are worked purlwise with yarn held in front of work. This sweater calls for the long-tail tubular cast-on. You can find a tutorial for this cast-on method on our blog.

Sandbar - Designed by Amy Gunderson. There is nothing quite as calming as relaxing on the sandy shore of a lake and listening to the water hitting the shore. It’s even better on cool mornings with a shawl wrapped over your shoulders to add a touch of warmth and comfort. These are the feelings that inspired Sandbar – an exquisite shawl crocheted in organic Cottonwood. Sandbar begins in the center with a decorative circular motif that is squared off. The wings are crocheted outward from two sides of the squared motif and a picot border is applied to the lower edges of the shawl.
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS: Depth in Center: 25½”; Wingspan: 66”
MATERIALS: Fibra Natura Cottonwood (discontinued) (100% organic cotton; 50g/115 yds); 41120 Barbara (A) – 5 balls; 41107 Monica (B) – 1 ball; 41118 Joanne (C) – 3 balls

Shoals - Designed by Amy Gunderson. Inspired by the natural pathways carved into rivers and streams, Shoals is a modern ribbed tank with a split hi-lo hem and details that accent your curves. The ridges formed by the ribbing remind us of water rushing through shallow shoals on barefoot creek days. This is a versatile tank - wearable alone on a humid southern day, or as a layering piece for cooler evenings in more arid climes. Shoals is knit in pieces from the bottom up and seamed. An I-Cord bind-off neatly adorns the neck and armhole edges.

Shortleaf - Designed by Rachel Brockman. The shortleaf pine is a species native to the eastern US. These trees abound in the Charlotte area, and especially in the area where this collection was photographed, so the name seemed a perfect fit for this sweater and its botanic-looking stitch patterns. The patterning along the upper body of this sweater looks just like a cluster of pine trees perched alongside a mountain range. This sweater is knit flat in pieces. The shoulders are joined using the three-needle bind off method. The sleeves and sides of the sweater are seamed. The Twisted stitch pattern is in chart form only, though a written version of the repeat is available to help ensure you are interpreting the chart correctly. Take care to review the charts to ensure you work the correct size. Note that the Twisted pattern shifts one stitch to the left with each vertical repeat. During Neck shaping, maintain pattern as est’d as much as possible. When in doubt, purl the stitch.

Windemere - Designed by Rachel Brockman. The earthy qualities of Unity feel right at home in this seamless tee. A very simple texture pattern is worked all-over the yoke, body and sleeves and enhance the slight thick-thin nature of the yarn. A slightly oversized fit and gentle waist shaping make this an easy top to throw on and go. This tee is worked in the round from the top down. Short rows shape the back neck to raise it for a better fit. The hem, neckband, and sleeves are edged with a contrast color, and contrast color fringe is applied to eyelets along the front of the garment.
